A Meme.....from Madeline

Are all of you familiar with Madeline? She writes a great blog called Barn Raising. Even though Cece tried to teach me how to *link* to someone, I'm an idiot and never took the time to figure it out, so take the time to just type www.barn-raising.blogspot.com into the little window up there and blame it on me. It will be worth it, I promise.

Anyway, she tagged me with this and I'm glad she did!

The game is to talk about your past week through these 4 questions:

1. What did you accomplish?
2. Did anything not go as expected?
3. What was the highlight of your week?
4. Did anything exciting happen you did not expect?

1. What did I accomplish? Well, here's the rundown....

Started my Christmas shopping, online of course, who the hell would go shopping in the weather we are having? So, this is what I bought so far:

3 iPod docking stations
13, literally 13, DVD's that my kids want. Can you believe I used to SERIOUSLY monitor how much TV they watched and they actually had time limits?? This place is going to hell in a hand-basket.
1 iPod armband
1 dress form - did you know these things were so damn expensive? Holy shit.
1 nintendo DS in red - this too I swore I would never allow to be in my house.....again, ....hell in a hand-basket.
11 million different Nerf toys.....too many to list
100 Christmas cards that will probably show up about Dec. 25th, what the hell, they can be New Year cards, right?
IKEA gift card - my child is leaving for college soon and IKEA is going to be her best friend, trust me.

Also, went to the local Antique store to find cute little tins to pack my Christmas cookies in. Every year we bake a shit-pot of cookies and give them to friends and neighbors. Something that should be sweet and nice turns out to be extremely stressful, but do you think I could just give it up? No, of course not. Besides, after all the stress, it does feel good to give them out and everyone loves them, or so they say.

What else did I do? Oh yeah, we cleaned ran electricity to our small barn/chicken coop because for the first time ever, we are not getting ANY eggs from our chickens. Now, part of me can understand. Who in their right 'bird-mind' would feel like laying eggs when it is so damn cold? They are busy keeping their little beaks from freezing off and can't be bothered with dropping eggs. However, when I would like an egg and I go to the refrigerator and there is none? That sucks. We haven't bought eggs from the store for over 3 years and I don't really want to start now. So, we wired some lights in there (this is suppposed to help), put in a small heater, insulated the laying boxes (the eggs were freezing and cracking) and generally tried to baby them in the hope they would feel loved and start laying some eggs already!!

I also started ordering the books for the farming conference that we are a part of that will take place in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in February. We order over 350 titles and that takes awhile - so I start early!

Ok, enough already, on to #2

2. Did anything not go as expected? You can probably answer this yourself when you think about us working outside, in -14 degree weather, working with animals, working with power tools and working with your husband........'nuf said.

3. What was the highlight of your week? Highlight.....hmmm, I guess that would be the fact that my husband has been switched from working day shift to afternoons or
3-11, it's been great having him home in the morning. We get to wake up together, instead of him getting up and leaving for work at the ungodly hour of 4 a.m., I'm completely comatose when he leaves. We get to hang out and have coffee together before the kids get up and then the best part of all, he hangs with the kids and gets them going on whatever it is they have going and he cleans up the kitchen, throws in some laundry and takes care of a few 'honey-dos' before he leaves. It's been great.

4. Did anything exciting happen that you did not expect? As a matter of fact, yes. Two of my best friends from high school emailed me and asked me if I would go on a trip with them to celebrate the fact that we are all 3 turning 40 early next year! Trips for me are stressful with the animals, the kids, the farmer's markets, the greenhouses......ugh, my life is complicated, but screw all that! I am going on a trip to celebrate my 40th birthday, damn it! I'm excited and I'm hoping all that excitement might make turning 40 not so bad......it's not bad, right ladies? It's just the beginning, right?

So, that was a reeeaaaalllllyyy long post and aren't memes supposed to make for short posts? I'm officially nuts. Have a good one!

Oh shit, I was supposed to tag others.........only 3 people? Well, refer to paragraph #1 as to why I'm not *linking* to these great women, remember, I'm an idiot. Anyway...here they are:

Cece over at Laughin', Lovin' & Livin'- http://lovinlaughinlivin2.wordpress.com/
Mrs. G over at Derfwad Manor - http://derfwadmanor.blogspot.com/
Lotus over at Sarcastic Mom - http://sarcasticmom.com/

there are others I want to tag, but the rules, the rules! Tell you what, just steal the idea and post away, how does that sound? Just remember to leave a comment and let me know so I can come over and see what you accomplished!!

Thanks for the tag. I'll do it this weekend. Quit being so organized, would you?

Do I come off organized?? Jesus, I sure wish I felt organized. Most days I just want to crawl back in bed and sleep the day away......my kids would usually appreciate that too, as I'm such a freakin' crab-ass!

I am so glad that I tagged you. This was awesome. And yes, 40 is definitely just the beginning. But celebrating that fact with your friends on a trip sounds like the way to go!

you bought 13 iPod docks?!?! the things that cost like $300 or are you talking about something else? if you are, then damn, I'm switching to farming sooner that I thought :)

what exactly is your part in the conference? do you run the whole thing? do a book table? how did you become a part of it?

Thanks, Madeline - I need that! 40feels rough - but maybe I'm making more out of it than necessary. We are trying to finalize the details of our trip, as we speak - keep your fingers crossed for me, will ya?

erikka - 3 docking stations and they were nowhere near $300! $$ in farming?? hahaha Don't I wish.....If you want more info on the conference, go to www.mosesorganic.org and all the details are there. I actually am hired as an independent contractor and I just order books in for the conference and run the booth for MOSES the non-profit org that runs the shindig. It's awesome! Our whole family looks forward to it every year.

Have a great night, ladies!
