And the busy season begins.......

Whewww. This is maybe the first time I have sat down at this computer in more than a week!

Things are exceptionally crazy around here. Yesterday was Girl Scout outings to a Theater Workshop (yeah!) and then home to finish putting the plastic on the greenhouse.

We are planting lettuce and spinach in the greenhouse today and seeding in the other house. Our 4H group is coming here tonight for our meeting and we are putting on a presentation on starting seeds, growing plants, etc. Something I am not thrilled about - but am doing all the same. What we do for the kids, right?

Our big news is.......we have a baby pig. Yes, I said pig. Some friends of ours received the pig as a 'gift' to their children, however, the dad said "no, way" and they didn't know what to do with it. They knew that we wanted a pig, eventually, to raise and butcher - so they called us to see if we would take it. We weren't really set up to receive a pig, yet, but we took it anyway. Right now, the baby is sleeping in our mudroom in a pile of blankets like she owns the place. Of course, the kids are thrilled and think it is a toy. My husband keeps calling it Canadian Bacon just to remind the kids that we ARE going to butcher this pig and it won't become a pet. Fat chance. Maddie already wants to go to the store to buy 'doll clothes'. Jesus, I can just see it now.

We have quite the menagerie here on the farm. Baby pig & rabbits running around the house, baby chicks in the small chicken coop, the big hens in the big coop and my daughter's sheep are coming next week! Just what we needed - some more things to do on top of gardening.

Spring is such a great time of year though - all the baby animals are so cute. Right now we have a pair of Canadian Geese and a pair of ducks nesting on our pond and pheasants nesting in our prairie. Yesterday we saw 6 deer (cute, as long as they stay out of my garden!), a coyote, 2 bald eagles, a sandhill crane and an owl. It's like frickin' wild kingdom around here.

Oh, by the way, did I mention that the 2 girl rabbits that we bought? One turned out to not be a girl, if you know what I mean. Want to take a guess as to what will be the next babies we have?

Have a beautiful spring day wherever you are!

Ohhh Cece, I have missed you! I need to carve out some time to get on this damn computer a little more.

Yes, yes, there have been people wanting to see the pig - she is soooo cute.

I'll make the time to get that done this week - I promise :)

Hope all is well with you.
