Remind me, why do we live here?

We woke up this morning to a lovely -4 degrees here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Of course, that isn't even the windchill which is probably something like -90, I don't even pay attention any more. You see, I am NOT a winter person, however, my husband is a winter GOD. Don't you think this may have been a red flag in our courtship? Shouldn't I have picked up on the hint that I would be spending my life in the frickin' Tundra? No. Blinded by love. Bleh. So, here I am living where it is so cold that when you go outside and breathe, your nose holes stick together. Great.

I put a heat lamp in the chicken coop last night because WTF - can you imagine sleeping outside??? I already had to buy a heater to put under their waterer or they were chipping ice with their beaks to satisfy their thirst. It actually stays surprisingly warm in there with all their body heat - they huddle together and help each other out.

Then we have my kids. Equally insane as their father.

Crazy little people: "Can we go outside and play?"
Only sane person in the house: "Are you for real? It is -4 degrees not counting the windchill!"
Crazy little people: "So"
There you have it - bad genes, shallow gene pool - all my husband's fault. Complete cheeseheads.

So as I sit here in front of my fireplace with long underwear and two sweatshirts, under a blanket, they are all outside, sledding, ice skating and riding the 4-wheeler through the snow.

Completely.insane.

Do me a favor today will you? Send warm thoughts or better yet anybody have a timeshare they aren't using for the next 5 months in say.........South America? Just e-mail me and let me know.

Sounds like it was a good day for hot chocolate and a good book!

Man I do not miss chickens in the winter.

FYI the birds do not need supplimental heat as long as the coop is dry and has no drafts (but some ventilation). they do need a 25 watt light on them 14 hours a day to keep them laying but nothing for heat.

Hey! put a link to your blog on my blog
