House Tour

I'm jumping on the Mrs. G bandwagon and sharing our home. The fact that I'm doing this BEFORE I clean, goes toward proving my insanity. But we're all friends, right? If you were my friend that lived down the street instead of my friend that lives across the country, you still wouldn't mind pushing aside the piles of crap on my table so we could have a cup of coffee together, right? Yeah, that's what I thought.

So, here we go.

This really isn't a room INSIDE our house, but it's an area we find ourselves in a lot. The front porch is where we spend a lot of time. That is, until the mosquitoes, which are the state bird of Wisconsin, you know, make their way to our party and then we have to escape inside.

The true heart of our home has to be the kitchen, dining, living room combo. Truly, this is where you will find us most of the time. My position is usually in the kitchen, standing at the counter. This is where I eat most of my meals while the kids sit at the island. Once in a blue moon, we are all together at the same time and we actually sit at the dining room table and have a meal like a real family. You people with little kids? Enjoy all your family dinners because as soon as they hit the tweens and teens, this ritual is tough to keep.

This is our office/school book room. When you homeschool, there are books on every flat surface of your home. We have about 5 large built-in bookshelves in this place and there are still books everywhere. I have a problem when it comes to books. I never give, throw or sort through books. Eventually, I will be one of those women who only has a small path through my house due to all the stacks of books.

Even though I've posted pictures of my un-clean house? I'm only giving you a peek, into the loft, which is our bedroom. I do have some pride and the state of this room is, well, unstately. We'll just leave it at that. My husband likes to affectionately call this room, the Workroom. Although with him working nights, there isn't much 'work' getting done in there!

The basement is basically the kids' family room. My husband and I spend so little time down there that when we dare to venture down, the kids look at us like, "what do you two want?" I did lay on the couch last night with the kids and watch Toy Story. Remember that movie? We LOVE that movie. It must be a good one for me to be able to wrangle an 11 and 13 year old into sitting still long enough to watch it. You never outgrow Toy Story.

Finally, a picture of my 18-year-old daughter's room. Remember that pride I was talking about? Well, it's out the window on this one.

She's leaving for college in August. Maybe I should forward this to her dorm-mate as a warning? Probably not. She'll find out soon enough.

I love those windows in the loft.

Your home is really pretty. Good luck this summer; the summer before a child leaves for college can be a bumpy one emotionally for both of you.

I can't imagine a daughter leaving for college. Maybe you'll miss the mess!

Love the porch!

I really love your house. I wish I could be that neighbor who wipes off the counter so we can have coffee.

Are you sure you didn't tidy up everything but your daughter's room before you took pictures? Wonderful house!

I really love your paint colors.

MVP's leaving for college in August, too. Where is your daughter going?

Angie - hey, great name, by the way:) My husband actually designed and installed those windows. It only took him 5 years of living here and us living with NO bannister at all! We're big on safety around here.

Tina - yes, I'm learning this - I'm trying not to think about the 'bumpy' part until it's staring me in the face. In case you haven't been reading here long....procrastination is my middle name.

Louise - the mess and the laundry are two things I will NOT miss about her leaving. Everything else will be hard.

Rebel - awwww. What a sweet thing to say. Aren't you in Texas? C'mon, that isn't that far from Wisconsin - just opposite ends of the US - no big deal. I'll keep the coffee hot.

Oliver - are you kidding me?! Lucky for me those pics aren't close ups. Literally, my floors haven't been swept in a week and the shit stacked on the tables is unreal. Maybe I should clean and then post 'after' pictures. On second thought, naw. Thanks for stopping by.

Jenn - the paint colors were quite the process when we built 5 years ago. I never want to paint anything again! I emailed you.

I knew I would love your house and I do. You are so right about enjoying those family dinners while they're young-we rarely sit down not that one of them has a car. Also, I only go down into our basement room once a month. I'm always a little frightened about what I might find.

Deirdre - yes! I'm sure you read above that my husband designed and built those in. Let's not talk about how cool that is though - we don't want him to think he's indispensible or anything:)

Mrs. G - thanks for hosting this - it is really cool! And thanks for swinging by to see my place. As far as being frightened by the basement? I figure if I don't go down there, I don't have to clean it - that's their job!

THese are great shots - I am in love with the loft, even if you won't let me up there - sniff sniff - and the Daughter's room? We have one of those....

Mosquitoes are the state bird in Wisconsin too? Ditto for Virginia, where I live. Blech.

I love your house and would have loved to have seen the loft, mess or not.

Oh, goodness ... At least there is proof of a floor in your daughter's room. If I go into X's room, I'm afraid I might take a step and end up in the living room downstairs. Very scary place. :)

I love the house tour. The stairway is so cool!

What a gorgeous, gorgeous house. I love your decor, the architecture, and mostly, it looks like a home.

Thanks for coming by my place today, too!

You have the most beautiful windows, and they are everywhere! I love them! Absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing, even the mess. Makes me feel better about my kids rooms, where the floors are rarely seen.

I love your nice open kitchen/living area and that you didn't clean.

I love your house. I'd gladly shove crap off your coffee table to have a cup of coffee there...

I love your home. So much natural light. I feel like I know you better now. :) I am intrigued by the stuff we all deep important. In that vein, I clicked on your 18 yos room (don't tell her) to see it in detail and saw that she has a Forensics book on her floor. So cool!!

I meant "deem" important - I need to start checking for typos before I hit publish. Oh, I love the Jack Johnson photo too. How hip are you?!!

Ventured over from the Derfwad. Your home is lovely! Great spaces you've got going there...
Nice to run across a homeschooler with older children as well.
