Writing

I'm curious. How many of you bloggers out there 'write' other than posting on your blog? It might be a journal, letters, thoughts, a novel, poems.......whatever.

Writing is something I have always loved to do, but for one reason or another, never really do it or feel that I do it well. The last two years I have tried my hand at the NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month. The first year it was a flop, didn't even get close to the goal. The second year ('06) I did actually get to the word count, but wasn't all that happy with the writing. Maybe in the next 5 years or so, I will reach both goals - making the word count goal and possibly enjoying what I wrote.

For me, and I'm sure for many people out there, especially moms, the hardest part of writing is finding the time. It seems like I have ideas pop into my head and have great intentions of getting them on paper (why do they always sound better in your head though?), but Life takes over and by the time I actually have 5 minutes to get a pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard, I've either forgotten what the great idea was or am 'out of the mood' to write.

At what point do we, as mothers, sorry guys, I can only relate to mothers, take the time to write? At what point do we make it a priority and say, "okay, between 6 & 8, or whatever time, I will be writing and can't be bothered!" Why is it so easy for us to put this thing that we would love to do, on the back burner? There might be the next greatest novel out there waiting to be put on paper but the author is too busy cooking dinner or doing the laundry! How will we ever know if we don't cut out a chunk of time to get our thoughts, ideas, aspirations down in a notebook?

Remember, JK Rowlings was dirt poor and on welfare when her first Harry Potter book was discovered! Now she is worth billions, literally.

Which brings up another point. Many, probably most of us, aren't doing it for the money, but for the outlet. You don't have to look far to read how healthy it is to get your thoughts and feeling down on paper - look how popular journaling is. Although journaling is something I am terrible at. Sure, I start and have great intentions, but just like this blog, daaaayyyys go by without any thoughts - so that might not be the best outlet for me. But I know women who can fill page after page in a journal every day and actually have very meaningful thoughts!

So, as I said in the beginning, "I'm curious" How do you do it? Where do you find the time? Should you be making more time to do it? Give me your thoughts.

I use to write, alot, when I was younger. Poems, stories, thought. Just stuff. But somewhere I just stopped. Kinda sad, too.

Break out the pen/paper, girl. We need to start supporting each other in our writing!

You never know what might come of it.
