She lives - Part II

To answer so many of you sweet women's questions - no, I did not get to run my 5K due to the pain-in-the-ass, or actually, pain-in-the-back, that is slowly but surely healing.

There is no better lesson in humility than having your body tell you exactly what you are and are not going to do, no matter what you might think you are going to do. You see, when bodies are attached to women who think they know better than to pay attention to that little 'twinge' she feels in her lower back, that dull ache that she is sure will go away after a few more yoga sessions, but in the meantime, let's harvest vegetables, haul feed bags, lift groceries, continue to run through the pain and put up eleventy-billion quarts of tomatoes and salsa. When you are a body attached to that kind of woman? You have to take matters into your own hands. You do this by making it impossible for this woman to walk, crawl or even get out of bed. There, maybe she will get what you are trying to tell her now, huh? Yeah, she got it alright.

Needless to say two weeks of not being able to do much besides bathe myself and go to the bathroom, usually by crawling on hands and knees down the hallway and needing help to get upright and sit on the toilet. Humility, I'm telling you, I got the message loud and clear.

I've been up off the couch for about 5 days now and actually am feeling pretty good, although I whisper that to myself just in case my body is listening and thinking I'm getting cocky.

Being without the exercise routine I was on was the biggest killer. I went from running 3.5 miles, 3 times a week to nothing, nada, zilch. Daily thoughts of never being able to run again were just some of the things I worried about. Some of the others highlights were, the weeds that I could hear growing, the laundry that was threatening to take over, the rotting tomatoes that weren't getting picked, and the CSA deliveries. They were good times.

Yesterday, I walked my 3.5 mile course, just to get out and get my body moving again and man, did it feel good. My doctor is saying with continued strength workouts, I could be running again soon. I have my eyes on a 5K in a week, but that might definitely be considered being cocky.

I've missed all your blogs terribly and thank you for all the sweet notes of encouragement. You ladies really are the best. As for past posts in the feed reader? Probably won't make it through all of those, but I'll be back to regular reading/commenting tomorrow. And what's with this 'followers' thing on my dashboard? It scared the hell out of me thinking I was being monitored or something! Glad to see some of you have taken the time to 'follow' me though:)

That always happens to my husband--he gets his exercise groove going and gets hurt. It bites. But I'm glad you are able to keep after it to some degree. After all, you're a busy woman with a lot of life you've got to live!

I'm glad you are feeling a little more yourself. I remember when I was younger, people would complain about their back and I would think they were just using it as an excuse not to help me move something. Now I get it. I was such a twit.

I understand. I had complications after my surgery and was flat on my back with a catheter for a few days. Damn, I couldn't even pee! It is learning humility in a big, big way.
I'm glad to hear you are on the mend. Take care of yourself, don't overdo it!

Oh honey! I had no idea! I'm glad you're on the mend, but I DO understand the perils of the body. May yours return to serve instead of dog you, soon!!!
