Where the hell does the time go??

Jesus. Has it really been a week? Literally, my days are swimming into each other.

What has been going on around here? Well, last weekend was our Fun Days Festival in our little township, complete with frog jumping contests, turtle races, sack races, egg tossing/water ballon tossing contests and endless softball tournaments. The weather was beautiful and we all had a good time - another weekend of summer gone.

The vegetable fields are overflowing, of course, so that is taking up a lot of time. We harvested for CSA and market today and because I'm a genius, I didn't have my camera, but it was pretty incredible. The CSA members better be hungry this week b/c their baskets were overflowing.

We leave tomorrow afternoon for the 'adult weekend' at our friends cabin. Over the 4th of July we include the kids, but the 3rd or 4th weekend of August is all for the adults. No worries about who is hungry, who can't find their swimsuit bottoms, who hasn't had a turn on the jet ski......well, I guess the husbands are still going, so we will have some of that, but you get what I mean. 3 days of sun/fun, alcohol and no responsibilities for little ones. In other words....great.

We are slowly but surely packing things up for Alyson to be on her way out to adulthood. We are not only hoping she survives but decides to actually go to class once in awhile and not totally lose her mind. One more shopping trip next week to wrap up the supplies and she is good to go. I discovered today that Maddie (middle child) is pilfering some of Alyson's clothes. She will casually ask if she can wear something, Alyson will say yes, then that thing disappears into the abyss of Maddie's room. She is hoping that Alyson has so many clothes that she won't miss the few items she is 'borrowing'. Truth is, Alyson will not miss them b/c the amount of clothing this child has is beyond belief. But, she's been buying her own clothes for quite some time now, so not my problem.

I'm off to can some tomatoes before we leave for the weekend. If I leave them on the counter the house will be taken over by fruit flies, so even though I would rather not be doing that, I have no choice.

I didn't update on the '08 Ass Project yesterday, but it's still going. 2.75 miles yesterday with no walking. The 3 mile mark is within my sight and even though I've been afraid to utter the words so I don't jinx myself, I think I'm going to be able to do it. Pretend you didn't hear me say that though, okay?

Now, here are a few pics to go with my update........someday when things slow down a bit around here, I might actually come up with an original thought instead of regurgitating my daily happenings.....maybe.

After spending weeks catching frogs and trying to determine which one was a winner, the one Brenna picked? Not bad, but not good enough for the win - he jumped 82" - the winner jumped 102". *They let the frog jump 3 times, then measure the distance.

Brenna trying to win some of those homemade goodies made by the old ladies at the Lutheran Church. See those two women on the left? They were beyond cute. They had an old record player and they were playing old 45's for the Cake Walk. Only in a small town.

Brenna and her bud, Sadie, digging for quarters in the sawdust.

Maddie lining up for the egg toss & water balloon toss with her friend, Jerrica.

Maddie looking unsure about this whole egg shit. What if it messes up her outfit?!

Brenna, getting ready to catch the egg from Sadie. **As a side note, see that cute boy right there on the right in the white t-shirt? Yeah, he scares me. He has the hots for Maddie and I'm afraid the feeling might be mutual. Yikes. Go ahead, click on that picture and get a close-up - he looks like a mini Keanu Reeves for Christ's sake. Ugh.

Even though Brenna and Sadie were one of the last two pairs.....yeah, they didn't win, obviously.

My ass is still sore from all the softball we watched in two days.

These are the days you are thankful you live in a small town in middle America.

What a fun weekend! I love the idea of a grown up weekend. But I'd still be in bed by 10 because I'm so pathetic that way.

I looove the every day posts, especially yours. Your girls and your small town life make me smile, and of course, your take on it all. Keanu Reeves. lol! Isn't every guy within a thousand miles in love with that girl?

You are so right about the days swimming into one another. Where did August go? Hell, where did most of the year go?!!?

Congrats on the, *ahem*, ass project. I'm glad that it's going so well for you. I find it inspiring. I need to kick up my activity level a notch.

Okay, ten notches.

Teehee, young love, so sweet. I can't imagine what it must be like to be a mom and see your children, who are still "young," start falling...I have to catch up on you cuz I have no idea what the Ass project is. :)

I really need to send you my girls for a summer (like you need two more girls huh?) so you can show them there's more to life than city living, DVR recordings, swimming pools and iPods.
