We spent yesterday, will be spending today and tomorrow, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Wannigan Days. What the hell is a Wannigan, you ask?
Well, here is the definition from Wiktionary:
Noun: Singular wannigan
Plural wannigans
wannigan (plural wannigans)
A box used to store food on canoe or sledding trips. Usually made of wood.
You see, we live on the Wisconsin side of the St. Croix River. Back in the day, this river was used for logging and the Wannigan was the boat that carried the cook and all their food.
The town has a 3-day festival full of sidewalk sales, farmers markets, DNR demonstrations, baseball games, carnival, cake-walks and at night, all the bars have different bands. This is small-town fun, folks and we are going to join in.
John and the kids headed in early this morning, while I'm taking some time to myself and will join them later. The plan is to work on some photography and capture the small town feel of the weekend - we'll see how it goes.
Next week? The Polk County Fair - now, there is an opportunity for photography! Talk about a human zoo!
Enjoy your weekend.

I wanna go to Wannigan Days!!! Small town fun is the best kind. (We have the Cow Chip festival next month!)
Our county fair was last week and I missed it, darn it all, but it was pretty rainy and mucky anyhow.
Small town festivals are the best. Hope you had a blast!
It sounds like a blast. I love that stuff.
Our small town shenanigans are not that cool! Have a great time.
This is the second post I've read today about county fairs. Its that time of year again, isn't it. Can't wait.
Aw, I missed it. Hey, I've got to tag you with a meme over in my kitchen. Please stop by when you get a chance. http://thesuburbanfarmercooks.blogspot.com/
